Helpful Tips for First Time Shooters

Your first trip to the range can be a little overwhelming, there’s a whole new vocabulary, a ton of rules a lot of noise to boot!  

If you are bringing a friend or family member, let us know as well and we will send you over some ideas on how to ensure they have a great time.  

Also, let us know if it’s your first time, we love to help new shooters learn how to have a safe, fun time at the range.

Range Rules

Range Rules
  • Children must be at least 8 years old to shoot
  • Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who will sign a waiver and stay with them at all times
  1. Fire Only When All Persons Are Behind The Firing Line And Safe Conditions Exist.
  2. Always Keep Firearms Pointed In A Safe Direction.
  3. 
Always Keep Your Finger Off The Trigger Until Ready To Shoot, And Outside The Trigger Guard Until Ready To Fire.
  4. Always Keep The Action Open And Firearm Unloaded, With Magazines Removed, Until Ready To Fire.
  5. 
Use Only Official Targets Properly Placed In Front Of The Backstop.
  6. Be Sure The Firearm Is Safe To Operate.
  7. Know And Understand The Operating Mechanism And Safety Features Of Your Firearm.
  8. Use Only The Correct Ammunition For Your Firearm.
  9. All Firearms That Are Not Holstered Must Be Cased In An Unloaded Condition While Going To Or From The Range.

If You Have Brought More Than One Firearm, Use Only One At A Time And, When Finished, Case The Unloaded Firearm And Its Ammunition Before Uncasing The Next One.
  11. Eye And Ear Protection Is Mandatory Before Entering The Shooting Range And While On The Shooting Range.
  12. Never Handle Firearms Behind The Firing Line.
  13. Upon The Command “CEASE FIRE” Stop All Shooting Immediately, Put Down Your Firearm And Back Away From The Firing Line. Shooters May Not Re- Approach The Firing Line Or Pick Up Their Firearm Until An “ALL CLEAR” Signal Is Given.

Never Use Alcohol Or Drugs Before Or While Shooting.
  15. No Food, Drink, Gum Or Tobacco Is Permitted Inside The Range. Wash Your Hands Each Time You Leave The Range And Before Smoking, Eating Or Drinking.
  16. Shooters May Collect Their Brass Behind The Firing Line Once They Have Unloaded And Cased Their Firearm And Are Ready To Leave The Range.
  17. Act Responsibly At All Times.
  18. If You Observe An Unsafe Condition, Report It to A Range Officer Immediately.
